Remembering Fiesole
On the leafy hillside of Fiesole
fireflies flicker after dusk
echoing the glow of lights
from Florence far below.
I scoop them up
wanting to hold that
distant scene in a jar
to keep it close, throbbing.
Night-blooming ginger
scents the soft summer eve,
and seeps into my pores
as I walk lightly
on this top of the world,
feeling I might float
into transparent air
at any moment,
to become the moon:
Full and Shimmering.

Island Inheritance
My people, rugged,
forged of fiery rock,
fire still in their bones,
pulse of peril,
volcano in their blood,
endure.

Intrapoeming
Together they danced a dactyl
In a lively anapestic gallop.
They continued word-mingling
Lost in their metered light.
He stroked her iamb
She trembled to his trochee.
The poemless spectators
Could only watch and wonder.
